About Oorah

Oorah Sponsors Jewish Summer Camp

Summer camps are a place for children to develop skills and responsibility in a safe and fun environment. In keeping with Oorah's mission to provide year-round activities and educational programming to Jewish children and their families, Oorah helps provide this opportunity for your child at a fraction of the cost other camps charge. At an Oorah camp, the staff is able to tailor the activities and the educational programming to the unique needs of Oorah’s families and children.

History of Oorah's Camps

Throughout the years, Oorah sponsored Jewish summer camp attendance for Oorah tuition scholarship recipients. This enabled the children to remain in a positive Jewish environment during the summer months. In 2003, Oorah was offered the keys to a functioning Jewish summer camp. The camp was a hit with Jewish girls from across New York and New Jersey.

In 2006, Oorah purchased and renovated the former Golden Acres resort in Gilboa, NY creating a fully equipped summer camp with top amenities. In 2009, Oorah purchased the nearby Scotch Valley resort and created another state of the art camp facility in the former ski resort.   Oorah now has adequate facilities to service many more Jewish girls and boys from across the US, Canada and even Israel. Oorah also sponsors DiscoverU, a unique program for Jewish singles age 18-26.

Oorah Sponsors Year-Round Events

At TheZone camps, the staff constantly plans new ways to enhance the camp experience for the campers. They organize a series of enjoyable reunions and exciting programs throughout the year and Oorah helps subsidize these events as well. These events and programs include Holiday Retreats, Shabbatons, trips, and year-round get-togethers.  With entertainment and activities all year long, TheZone is truly more than just a camp.

TheZone campers and families speak about Oorah
“The staff of Oorah is so loving and devoted.  Usually you meet one or two people that make an impression, but here I couldn’t meet one or two that didn’t, all so warm and giving.  It almost feels like a perfect getaway with a religious twist (didn’t know such a thing existed).  At a place like this the best comes out in a person. “
- Victoriya K., mother of a camper in The Zone Girls Division, Shavuot Getaway attendee

“From the moment my boys and I got out of the car in the parking lot, we were made to feel at home.  Rabbi Lichtenstein was standing there to welcome us with a big smile, a handshake and some welcoming words for the 3 of us ...We had a few hours before the holiday, came in to check out the camp-grounds and were blown away - This is a camp??  Mix in the first class grounds and buildings with the stunning view and most importantly with Oorah's spirit and I can see why this is a great place to send the boys for camp next summer.”
- Matias D., father of two The Zone Boy’s Division campers, Shavuot Getaway Attendee

“We found out about Oorah’s  TheZone camp from a friend who had heard great things about it. We looked into several orthodox camps for our 14 year old daughter to attend and Oorah’s camp stood out. We keep a kosher home but are not shomer shabbos but thought it would be a good experience for our daughter. We were wrong, it turned out to be an UNBELIEVABLE EXPERIENCE. She loved every minute of it.
As soon as she got home informed us she  WAS going back next year and convinced our 2 other daughters to go as well. She loved the food, activities, social events, special trips, animal interaction and all the learning and yiddishkeit she gained. It was an experience she will never forget. From the unbelievable counselors to  the staff in Lakewood who were always there to answer my questions and the office staff at camp who were very helpful when we needed anything I thank you. From pick up in Brooklyn to arriving back to Arizona, Oorah made everything extremely easy and gave us peace of mind knowing that they really take great care of the kids.
We look forward to sending all our kids next year to Oorah’s camp and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to anyone who wants to give their kids a summer they will never forget and want to go back again…”
