Stephanie Hewett

Stephanie Hewett was born in Newton Kansas in 1977. At the age of 5 her mother decided that Stephanie needed a hobby so she enrolled her in piano piano lessons. Soon after she started playing the passion was born. Her Father played piano, organ and sang in the local church choir and it was not long before Stephanie was joining in. At that point she had begun to sing a lot more at school as well. In the fourth grade she developed an interest in the Stand up or Double Bass. This was due in part to her father's history of playing in a band while attending college. She also began to play the guitar.

While attending High School she continued to develop her skills by singing in the choir and playing with the schools orchestra. During this stage in her life her writing talents began to shine. She will often tell you a story about sitting in a huge field of sunflowers as her first songs began to take life. Many of these songs are still in her repertoire, including an A Cappella song, "Laughing Water" that was written in memory of her grandmother.

Following high school she attended Truman State University in Kirksville Missouri. Her intentions were to major in music performance. During her first year she was feeling the pressures that mastering the classics will always bring on so she began to strike out in her own form. The Blues became a very important part of her life. She soon had to give up playing the stand up bass due to tendonitis in her wrist. At this point she was looking for a way out of her chosen path of a musical performance major. At no time did she ever give up writing and you can feel this in every song she plays. She then moved to Lawrence Kansas to attend the University of Kansas. She played with several bands trying to find the right mix and continued to write more songs. Currently a senior majoring in Geography she has found a home on the stage… a girl and her guitar….
