Hey there...This is John from Grovel writing under the alias of Keanon...just to further promote reviewing by outsiders, I thought I may give a review for the Danger Bob show I saw on Friday (1.02.98).
First off...The show was kicked off by the Bubble Boys, local straight forward punk band. The major problem of the evening was the sound man. I thought he could use some practice. If any of you have been to Gee lately, you know what I'm talking about. The Bubble Boys music reaches a little farther than I do into the punk world, but they seem focused on their goal and they do what they do well. I'm really not that much on the punk scene but I enjoyed it.
The Gadjits played next and you can probably believe how many people went to the show just to check them out. With them being Johnson County heroes and what not. Again, this is notmy choice of listening, but that appear to have their heads together in the way of knowing what they want, they were very together and kept the crowd happy. I think they probably have the potential to go alot farther than they have, with the recent demographic and musical trends in place.
Then came Danger Bob. I can't ever say enough good stuff about these guys. I love the music, it's well arranged and fun to listen to. I think all of them are accomplished in keeping the crowd alive (especially so late at night) They insert a certain degree of humor in their shws that is not to be found most places around here and I think that's great. If you don't plan to have fun, then what's the point of playing right? Anyway, they were by far the gem of the evening and I left a happy camper. All three bands I saw were talented in their specific genre or style and I think these are the sorts of things we need in order to build a strong, diverse, music scene here in good ole KC...thanks for listening.
