Q, Stella Link, Proudentall, and To Conquer
El Torreon

Review by Cindy Gonzalez

Friday April 6th, El Torreon hosted a show including some of the area’s very own talent. The line-up included Q, Stella Link, Proudentall, and To Conquer.

The night began with Q hitting the stage. Filled with intricate guitar riffs, Q members really made their sound work with guitarist and bassist sharing mic duties. While listening to one of their songs I heard a slight reminiscences of STP. Musically everything seemed to work, although I wouldn’t have minded hearing a stronger vocal presence. The band members really complemented each other, giving Q an overall strong musical presence.

Setting their own ambience on stage by adding unique lamps, The Stella Link was the second band to perform. Both of the opening instrumentals were played with a smooth mellow tone. While playing their third song, the sound became a little more edgy with an up-beat tempo. Through their set members changed instrument duties. Overall, The Stella Link also proved to have a strong musical presence on stage.

Next to hit the stage was Proudentall. This band probably got my attention the most with the drum fills, guitar riffs, vocals, and the bassist's loud background yells. Most of Proudentall's compositions were very ear luring from beginning to end. I enjoyed their set as they managed to play off each other and really making it work. I was quite impressed with what they had to offer in all aspects.

Last to hit the stage was To Conquer. Also grabbing my attention, To Conquer offered some pretty catchy tunes. They kept a mostly hard, up-beat tempo. Filled with great bass lines, guitar solos, and singing, everything seemed to fit in place with this band. Towards the end of the set, their up-beat tempo slowly faded as they ended on a more softer and mellow note.

This was the first live local show I’ve experienced, and I had no idea what to expect. The qualities I was most impressed with were shared by all the bands that preformed that night. Whether performing in front of 5 people or 5 thousand, each band put 110% of themselves into each song, proving their love of music. All of these bands are definitely worth checking out again.
