the Creature Comforts - "The Politics of Pop" (Noisome Records)

Album review by Joe Fortunato

Elvis Costello, anyone? OK, I'm half kidding. It's the first thought I had when "Sentimental Bliss" began. What is the signature "Creature Comforts sound"? Good, old fashioned pop with a twist - tight songs fittingly dynamic when they need to breathe. Sensible arrangements and classic pop/punk elements sprinkled lightly with a sneering vocal style. Costello mates with the Foo Fighters and birthes angry pop brat. Close enough.

While not my typical listening choice, our scene would be sad to see the Creature Comforts go elsewhere. Let's hope they stick around long enough for a resurgence of energy in our local music families. Hey, they're going to SXSW (South By SouthWest for you neophytes out there) for chrissakes....they must be doing something right.

hotspots : "Big Dipper" and "Sincerely, Me".
