| The Waxed Tadpoles at Blayney's in Westport Saturday, November 22nd Kansas City, MO Review by TBone of the Waxed Tadpoles -- Four Fried Chickens and a Coke opened the show for us at Blayney's. They are a 9 or 10 piece, horn intensive R&B act that covers a lot of Blues Brothers tunes and similar material. We were trying to get our equipment in as they played, so I didn't get to concentrate as much as I would have liked to on their set. One thing is for sure, they brought a lot of people with them and they were pretty damn good, and that comes from a guy who isn't a big horn fan. Anyway, they did a great job of getting the night started off right. We were a little slow on the swap because my damn Wah Wah peddal shot craps on me and I was trying to fix it at the last minute, with no luck. So I played without it. The crowd had thinned a little, but would still be described as damn near a packed house. We fired into things as usual, starting the night off with some Waxed Tadpole Stinging Blues and a few covers. There were a ton of Tadpole faithfuls out in the crowd, and they really helped to make the show a great success. We had lots of people dancing, a lot of requests from the audience and just fantastic interaction with everyone there. This was a very personable show that was hilighted at the end of the night when all of the dancers joined the band on stage for at least one rockin' tune. Let me tell you, it was a great feeling to be in the middle of a group of people that are diggin' hard on your music. What a blast! The night was full of little surprises like that and I would have to say once again that we were firing on all cylinders. Of course, at Blayney's we play until 2:30 a.m., and the crowd, although it was thinning throughout the late night hours, stayed with us until the very last chord was struck! If anyone deserves the praise for this successful show, it would have to be all of you that attended. We simply had a fantastic time playing for you all. Hope to see ya next time! -- Tbone. |
